A Chanel Style jacket is timeless and very popular. Watch this YouTube video for highlights in the construction of these jackets.

Below is a Chanel Style Jacket that I made for myself.

For the body of my jacket I used the pattern Vogue 7975C which is a basic pattern.  This pattern can be reused multiple times for different jacket styles. I used Vogue 8991 for the sleeves, I love the curvy vent!  And, I placed the pockets as in Vogue 8804 because I think that is more flattering for a full bust figure.

Part of the construction is to quilt the fabric and the lining together using matching thread so it is invisible in the right side of the fabric. To stabilize the fabric edges, I used silk organza salvages.

To embellish my jacket, I made fringe using the same fabric (taking threads out) and on top I sewed a black and bronze braid.

Fabric & Supplies

  • Boucle weave fabric from Mood Fabrics – I used one of the lowest priced boucle fabric for $25 per yard
  • Silk Dupioni from Joann Fabrics for the lining
  • Silk Organza salvages for the edges
  • black braid also from Mood Fabrics
  • The hem chain is from Pacific Trimming

I made a muslin for the fit and this is the best fitted jacket I’ve ever made.  Commercial jackets are made for B-cup figures and on me they are always too tight in the bust area.

There is a lot of handwork but I enjoyed sewing it and I love the result.
