Backgammon Bag

Backgammon Bag

The Backgammon Bag is the January Pattern for the Bag of the Month Club 2016 and it was designed by Betz White. The finished size of this bag is 16” W x 11” H (at center) x 21⁄2” D. It features two large pieced pockets, one in each side of the bag that close with magnetic snaps. The bag closure is with a flip lock, the strap is adjustable and attached to the body of the bag with O rings.

The Backgammon Bag was my fifth project of the Bag of The Month Club 2016.  In the Bag of The Month Club you buy a bundle of 6 surprise patterns and you’ll receive 6 patterns, one a month from January – June and It’s a surprise what the pattern is before you receive it!

I made this bag for my mom; well… she also kept the Gabby bag… and two Penny Inns… lol

She wanted a jean bag and I use leftover fabric from my Window Shopper Tote Bag; for the accent pieces I use leftover fabric from this dress that I made.

In this picture I’m with my daughters.  I made this dress using Vogue V8993 and wore it to a dinner cruise.

After that dress, the only thing I’ve sewn are bags… is it addictive? because I cannot stop…

For the lining I also used leftover fabric from my dress lining.

I already had the hardware, so basically this is the most inexpensive bag I’ve made, my only investment was the zipper for the interior pocket 🙂

To be honest, I wasn’t a fan of this design, the triangle piecing wasn’t my favorite, but I’m happy in how it turned out.  My mom likes it and has been using it as her everyday bag. (She likes to showcase it and say that I made it)

The construction of the Backgammon Bag is relatively easier because it doesn’t use foam stabilizer as the other BOMC bags. It uses fusible fleece and it doesn’t stand on its own but it has a good shape.

The only bag from this club that I haven’t finish is Chris W Lunar Bag – I’m making the Half Moon (medium) Size and hope to finish it soon.  It’s been the most challenging one to sew.

There is a second part of the BOMC this year (from July to Dec); I haven’t join yet, but I enjoyed the club and might join again – I just have a few bags that I want to sew before that 🙂 starting with Harriet Expandable Tote by Swoon Patterns; I’ve been wanting to sew that one for a while and I already have the materials.

Happy Sewing,

Anabelle
