The free shorts pattern is for the Boudoir Shorts designed by Tara Miller and published in the Stitch Magazine. These modern wrap shorts feature a feminine curved slit in the front and they can be embellished with different kind of trims and laces. You can sew with any fabric and you can add different details for many different looks. The FREE pattern is available in size XS to XL and you can easily adjust it to your figure.
.
You’ll Need
1 1/4 yd of fabric.
elastic for the waist band
Tip. Use natural fibers (cotton, rayon, linen, silk, etc) – you want your shorts to breath… Polyester won’t be as comfortable for the heat of the summer
Style Ideas
Below are some pictures from Pinterest that might inspire you to sew your Boudoir shorts (or a few of them)
Pair them with a tank top or camisole or if you want to go fancy use a nice blouse. You can use these shorts for a night out or even to go to bed depending on the fabric you choose to make them.
Printed fabrics and a nice trim like this is easy to make and will look great!
.
If you want fun and stylish shorts, use fun prints, like this watermelon one:

Any solid color work as well, but for extra comfort knit fabrics are a great choice.

Classic and elegant white is always a sophisticated look! it looks great!

Sewing Instructions
I didn’t find the sewing instructions for this pattern but it is not hard to sew. It runs big, when cutting, confirm your measurements (the width of the shorts should be your hip measurement + 1″)
The pattern does not include the strips showed in the cutting layout. Those strips are for the hem binding as shown in the pattern picture. If you are going to use this finishing, the strips width should be about 1 1/4″; you won’t need the strips if you are going to use a lace trim or other finishing.
There are only 3 pattern pieces, to construct:
1. Assemble the front pieces matching the black dots
2. Sew the sides
3. Sew the crotch
4. Fold over the top part and add an elastic or you can also cut a waistband
5. Finish the hem and front curves with binding or a lace trim

Boudoir Shorts by Tara Miller
Are the instructions for making the shorts online anywhere?
Anabelle Delgado
Sorry, I couldn’t find the instructions; but it shouldn’t be hard – sew the front pieces (with any embellishment), then the crutch, side seams, and waistband and hem at the end.

When I sew the rear do I need to make my own curve I only have 2 pieces that have curves (on the thigh)

How long and wide are the strips for the waistband and can I use button closures instead of elastic? I’m entering a contest tomorrow with this pattern so a quick response would be great! TIA

I would use 3″ wide + seam allowance (folded would be 1 1/2″) – and the length should match your pant (depend on size)
Isobel
i don’t get how to put the pieces together

how do i sew the sides..im confused help!
Anabelle Delgado
Hi Britney!
There are no side seams in these shorts – the front and back pieces overlap. This tutorial from Melly Sews has pictures, it might help: http://mellysews.com/2016/07/sew-pom-pom-shorts-free-pattern.html

The shorts would be great under a midi/maxi skirt in hot weather! I can’t wait to get started.

Do you have any pictures of the shorts from the back and sides? These would be very helpful for putting the shorts together. Thanks
Linsey
I am confused about the side piece of fabric. Does this get attatched to the front[A]? If so, is there a picture showing this?
Riley Jo Wallace
Hi Linsey! See my comment below. 🙂
I’m taking pics as I go along, and I might post them on a blog or Pinterest if others would find it helpful.
Anabelle Delgado
Thanks Riley!
I also want to include instructions with pictures to sew the boudoir shorts, but I haven’t had the time to do it. If you do, please share the link.

I would love to see your pictures.. I have been sewing for a while and this pattern makes no sense to me.. lol
I can’t see how it works yet..
Anabelle Delgado

let’s see if I can make a tutorial before the end of the summer… lol

1. Sew the front (A) pieces together at the curved edge.
2. Sew the back pieces together at the curved edge
3. Sew the side pieces to each side of the back piece (should be a flat edge on each side, line up the notches!) the side piece ends up being what overlaps in the front, if that helps.
4. Sew the crotch seam
5. Add any embellishments/binding/hemming to the entire edge of the shorts
6. Add waistband/etc. The overlap of the side piece should hit the front piece where the dots are.
Hope this helps! <3

What do I do with the Front (B)? Do I sew it to Back (C)?
Anabelle Delgado
yes, sew the front sides to the back sides. You don’t have to sew the curve on the front.
